The
Objective:
Maine Small Business Development Center Annual Report. This was a record
year of 8 success stories. The center decided to go all out with this
annual, but being a nonprofit company, their budget was limited. Marketing Strategy:
Use the annual report for promotion and to increase funds for following
year.
Creative Execution:
The theme was all about “Showing The Way”. My first challenge
was to get images of the 8 featured business owners. I picked out 4 photographers
to photograph 2 businesses each. I presented each photographer the conceptual
layout; the budget could only pay for their costs. Because of this I asked
them to shoot the image in a way that reflects their photographic style.
As a bonus I would give them 10 copies of the completed annual. They agreed.
Next, I Art Directed an artist to create art for the “eye candy”
through out the piece. Sticking with the theme, we came up with items
like a pointing hand, pile of stones, lantern, compass face, etc. illustrated
in the ink resist style. The cover was printed in 8 colors. First we printed
the 4-color process. When the 2 PMS color inside was printed, the cover
went back through, then the matte and gloss varnish was applied to the
cover.
